PacificSport Columbia Basin Announces Bid for 2038 Winter Olympics,
Showcasing Regional Collaboration and Natural Splendor.

PacificSport Columbia Basin today announced its official bid to host the 2038 Winter Olympic Games, presenting a unique, regionally-focused vision that highlights the stunning natural beauty and exceptional sporting infrastructure of the Columbia Basin region. This bid emphasizes collaboration between key communities, aiming to deliver a sustainable and unforgettable Olympic experience.
The proposed Games will leverage existing facilities and natural landscapes across multiple cities, creating a truly regional celebration of winter sports. Key features of the bid include:
Ice Sports Hubs: Cranbrook, Fernie, Nelson, and Trail will collectively host ice sports, including hockey, figure skating, and short track speed skating, utilizing their well-established arenas and community spirit.
Long Track Speed Skating: Windermere will feature a, state-of-the-art temporary spectator stadium, for racing on the world- renowned Whiteway, to host long track speed skating events.
Alpine Skiing: Panorama Mountain Resort will showcase its exceptional slopes for alpine skiing competitions.
Freestyle Skiing Extravaganza:
- Fernie Alpine Resort will host moguls.
- Red Mountain Resort in Rossland will be the site for ski cross.
- Golden will host aerial skiing.
- Whitewater Ski Resort near Nelson will host the freeride events.
Sliding Sports: Kimberley Alpine Resort will provide the challenging tracks for
bobsled, luge, and skeleton events.

Ski Jumping Spectacle: Valemount, with the majestic Mount Robson as a backdrop, will host the ski jumping competitions, offering a breathtaking visual experience.

The 2038 Winter Olympics bid promises to be a celebration of sport, culture, and community, set against the backdrop of one of the world’s most spectacular natural environments. “I can’t think of any good reason why not!” states Montana Molyneux, PacificSport Manager of Community Sport. “We can sort out the logistics another time”.
