Physical Literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities (Whitehead, 2016).

There is an abundance of researchers and passionate advocates for Physical Literacy models that have been implemented across Canada. Organizations within the  Regional Sport Alliance is a recognized leader in providing highly effective programs across the province for over 30 years.

The low population density of the Columbia Basin across 25 municipalities and 4 first nations requires a strategic foundation to underpin an impactful and sustainable Physical Literacy model. We need to understand the leading models, and customize them to our unique circumstances

PacificSport Columbia Basin has received a Grant from ParticipACTION to lead this strategic work and engage key stakeholders (Teachers, Administrators, First Nations) to establish a strategy that will effectively meet the needs of our community.

This funding is through the Government of Canada’s Community Sport for All initiative. The ParticipACTION Community Challenge Grants support community organizations in removing barriers and increasing physical activity and sport participation and retention for equity deserving groups.
