Kian Johnston & Coach Grace
IGNITE Trail is delivered by two experienced coaches: Kian Johnston leading strength and conditioning at Elevate Athletics Trail, and Coach Grace bringing a deep gymnastics background to the program at Trail Gymnastics Club.
Kian Johnston
Kian Johnston brings a strong athlete-first approach to IGNITE Trail, combining academic training, coaching credentials, and high-level competitive sport experience. A former NCAA athlete and current professional baseball player, Kian understands what it takes to train with purpose, build consistency, and prepare athletes for the next level.
Kian's coaching philosophy is centred on putting each athlete in the best position to succeed based on their individual strengths and areas for growth. His approach is structured and focused, with clear expectations around work ethic, while still creating a relaxed and positive training environment where athletes feel supported.
He believes one of the biggest keys to athlete development is finding the right balance between high standards and an environment athletes enjoy being part of. Through IGNITE, Kian helps athletes build strength, confidence, and the physical foundation they need to perform across sport.
Kian holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with an emphasis in Health and Wellness, along with a Sport Science Diploma. He is a Certified Nutrition Coach through NCI, has NCCP training, and has completed Strength and Olympic Lifts Level 1. His sport background includes experience as a former NCAA athlete and current professional baseball player, with professional playing experience in Canada, France, Sweden, and international Baseball Jobs Overseas All-Star events.
Outside of coaching, Kian enjoys baseball and fishing.
"The best thing about coaching IGNITE is helping athletes reach the next level."Kian Johnston, IGNITE Head Coach, Trail
Coach Grace
Coach Grace brings a strong gymnastics background and a positive, skill-focused approach to the IGNITE Athlete Development Program. With experience as both a former Provincial-level competitive gymnast and a long-time coach, Grace understands the importance of building strong movement foundations, confidence, body awareness, and discipline in young athletes.
Grace has a passion for the sport of gymnastics and has been coaching recreational programs since 2014. Since 2021, she has also coached in the competitive program, supporting athletes as they develop strength, coordination, flexibility, and technical skill.
Her coaching approach focuses on helping athletes build confidence through progressive skill development and a supportive training environment. Through IGNITE, Grace helps athletes develop movement skills that support not only gymnastics, but performance across a wide range of sports.
Grace is NCCP Women's Artistic Gymnastics Foundations Certified, WAG Competition 1 Trained, and Foundations Trampoline Trained. She also holds Standard First Aid with CPR C.
"The best thing about coaching IGNITE is helping athletes build confidence, body awareness, and strong movement skills they can carry into any sport."Coach Grace, IGNITE Gymnastics Coach, Trail

The physical foundation every sport is built on.
Trail's competitive athletes are putting in the work every season. IGNITE gives them the physical platform to go further with it. Structured, twice-weekly sessions that build strength, speed, coordination, and movement quality across every sport, every season.
Built for Competitive Athletes
Designed for athletes already competing in hockey, skiing, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and more. IGNITE complements team practice rather than competing with it, and the physical gains carry across every sport on your athlete's schedule.
Coached the Right Way
Kian Johnston delivers the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific curriculum at every session. Technique comes before load, quality before quantity. Athletes learn to move correctly first, which reduces injury risk and builds the kind of confidence that shows up in competition.
Local, Right Here in Trail
Delivered at Elevate Athletics Trail, a facility built specifically for athlete development. Kian knows what local athletes are training toward, and has built a program that reflects it.
A Pathway, Not Just a Program
IGNITE is structured across progressive stages: Foundations, Aspire, and Perform. Athletes who start in Fall 2026 could follow the full pathway, with priority registration access at each stage along the way.
Built for athletes across every sport.
IGNITE is not designed for one sport. The physical foundations of strength, speed, coordination, and movement quality carry across every discipline your athlete competes in. Currently supporting athletes in 15 or more sports, including:
